outdoor spaces

yes we have hit winter, but i still love spending time outside.
especially with the mild winter weather we have in perth.
plus my new apartment has a north facing balcony that catches the sun all day, which is perfect for relaxing with a book or enjoying the view.

here's my inspiration to jazz it up a little...
benches // balcony // caravan // verandah

my boudoir

my haven.
i (finally) finished updating my boudoir.
finishing touches of a repainted dresser, sheer curtains, artwork, mirrored surfaces and sheepskin rug.
just in time for the arrival of my very arty and designer little sis.
i must feel the need to impress.

bedroom inspiration

my latest inspiration.
my bedroom is undergoing a bit of an update.
loving white with dark contrasts, sheer curtains, any kind of sparkle, muted colours and a vintage feel.
wishing most of all that i could paint the walls, but it's not worth the bother in a rental property.
i'll post some photos once i'm done!

the country sister

tucked away in the rolling plains just outside of launceston lives a happy little country mouse – my sister christine (+ edward and the 'kidlets').
her place (palace) is just amazing!
there is something picturesque around every corner.
visiting was like stepping into another world.
makes me want to pack up my 'city life' and career and move out to the country with them.

blackboard footprints poem

so i finally got around to getting my blackboard up.
a plan since i saw the ugly bare wooden panel that houses the fridge in our kitchen.
so cousin daniel (aka blonde daniel) who also happens to be housemate mel's uncle (weird but true), got us a piece of mdf cut to size.
so i primed, painted and tacked it on.
so in love with it.
friends at our housewarming had a great time writing poems, drawing pictures and even notes about coming events.
currently it is home to my favourite poem, footprints in the sand.
i have a new awe for teachers who can write in straight lines on a chalkboard.
not easy.

warming the house up

mel and i (finally) decided on a date to have a house warming.
YAY.
i've always wanted to have my own housewarming...
wait for it...
because...
i wanted to use one of my 3am ideas (this one dates back about 2 years),
of having a graphic of a little house with a flame on it.
sad but true.
hmmm, now i have to do things like cater for it etc.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeekkkk.
we all know how much i hate the kitchen.
at least i have mel.

bit cuter now

NOT quite there yet... but mel and my pad is jazzed up a fair bit now.
need to get my paints out and get some artwork on the walls.
well, buy some canvases first.
small dilemma (why do i always have to google that word?!) of not being able to put 'holes' in the wall to hang things up.
rental properties grrr...

p.s. how cool is my vase on the dining table! go kmart find!

lemons and sky

ok so it's not really that great – but the garden at our new place sure has character.
i went for a bit of an explore the other evening, while cleaning up my moving boxes.
it is all in desperate need of a clean up, the previous tenant mustn't have looked at it.
it'll get there when I have some spare time.

the cute little garden shed that time forgot.

we have a lemon tree!
saddest looking specimen you'll ever see...
but it does have lemons.

i really love the colour of the shed!

little fence sitting by itself for no reason in a bunch of weeds.

now this is a bush I have never seen.
it smells sweet like jasmine or honeysuckle or something.
one of my favourite smells.
bit ugly but fills the whole back of the yard with its lovely aroma.

wa flora is a totally foreign to me, but I think we have LOTS of frangipani's waiting to bloom.

ikea is the best

i really don't want to spend exuberant amounts of money of furniture for the new pad.
but i do want funky, won't-break-when-i-sit-on-it stuff.
solution = ikea.
went shopping there last night with mel and her parents.

christine, you'll love the new catalogue.
it's online, but I'll send you one with the fabrics I bought you.

got this dining table, bargain $25 chairs, wall unit and RED rug and cushions.
it's all in boxes and half put together in our 'dining room' at the moment.
hello friday night furniture making.

my new pad

mel (my housemate) and I have a new 'house'!
it's a 2 bedroom duplex in bateman.
we love.

funky 60's bathroom & sunroom out the back.

the living area, only very chucked together at the moment.
still need more furniture and decorations etc.
stay posted for the final 'product' in a few weeks.

i heart my new room.
cousin daniel (blonde daniel) made mel and i same SWEEEEET wardrobes.
i even have drawers for my shoes!
LOVE!
need to purchase a bed base, but the floor is fine for now.
saves a lot of injuries with not being far to fall.
still in the habit of falling out of bed at 27.
my favourite photo of 'the three musketeers' in pride of place on my dresser.
...and 'sock monkey' lives on : )
