my mummy is such a clever lady

as you could probably figure out, my mum is over for a visit.
(+ my little brother).
she was showing me her latest craft project photos and i just had to share these two…
a beautiful handmade baby blanket.
made out of old woollen knits from the op shop.
and a bright red hand knitted cushion cover.
now she's knitting me one!
i'll admit i'm knitting too now – just a simple scarf.
i hope it turns out to be a scarf, rather than a scrap of messy wool.

my mummy is such a clever lady.

DIY inspiration 2

some inspiration if you're planning on an arty long weekend.
i'm planning a break from all things design, art and creativity for a few days.
(but no doubt it'll get the better of me.)
happy looooong weekend!

DIY inspiration

DIY ideas (i've collected something else) that i wish i had the time/talent/resources for.

i thought i'd share the inspiration, seeing i'll only get around to possibly one or two projects.

1. vintage photos in glass bottles and jars

2. flower magnets

3. arty zip lock bags

4. happy pills

(an actual candy store in barcelona – check it out here)

5. diy notebook lunchbag

6. newspaper gift bags

sweet pillow pair

it's cool things like this that make me wish i sewed.
(just a little bit – not an overwhelming urge or anything).
i thought you'd like these sarah-jane...
especially seeing your boyfriend is now quite bearded.

loving paper decoration

my bedroom ceiling could do with some finery.
diy paper decoration?
i can already make paper cranes (images via here and here) but they are quite time consuming – especially a room full of them.
or thinking the pom poms might be a better idea? (images via here and here)
or a paper bunting? (images via here and here)
can't decide.
all need zero sewing skills (a bonus since i don't sew) and paper is my medium of choice in everyday life anyway.
any ideas which way to go?

wonderful winter warmer

fabulous idea.
even i – who don't sew – could attempt this.
perfect for snuggling on a frosty winter night.
+ an all time favourite colour combination
(she says as she sits at her computer wearing a charcoal knit and watermelon scarf)

mr. sock owl

another creation by me beautiful big sis.
i know she's 'blogged' him, but i just wanted to show how perfectly he's made.
even has little tea cup patterned fabric on the back of his wings.
love him sisel.
he currently 'guards' my tea boxes cause he matches so well.

mr. goose

isn't he adorable!
created by the very talented sarah-jane for my mum.
sewing being a talent i wish i possessed,
but sadly the thought of it makes me shudder with dread.
i'll leave it to the experts (i.e. mum, christine and sj)
and stick to pixels and paint.

coffee cozy by christine

yes i'm into the new year still bragging about how cool my family is.
the latest and greatest is another christine creation.
she made me a gorgeous felt coffee cozy!
it's even reversible.
the idea solely hers after her visit a few months ago and her bemusement about me wrapping my percolator (a very well used gift from musketeer heidi) in a tea towel to keep it toasty warm while it brews up nice and strong.
I drink strong black coffee with no sugar.
the kind that stands up by itself in the cup ;-)
(not every day though)

anyway i adore it sisal.
me: 'how did you know the size?'
christine: 'i measured it when i was over'
of course you did miss-super-organised!
i don't know how she manages to find time to be so thoughtful and creative since she's in the middle of buying/moving/selling house(s), looking after 3 children and has been entertaining lots.
love you supermum.

they now have a lovely home hanging of branches in a vase on our dining table.

the sj and tom story

she's beautiful and about the funniest girl you'll ever meet.
sarah-jane (sj) created this little masterpiece of her and her 'man' tom.
i love the quirky design.
(all done in paint would you believe!)
more please sj!

sheepish bag

i have by far the coolest 'gym' bag.
lovingly made by my darling sister christine from my specifications of
"oh i love that sheep fabric, it needs to be big enough for my running shoes and clothes, and red lining pleeeeeaase".
she came up with the design/pattern herself and sewed it to perfection!
it even has a 'phone' pocket – which i admit i use for my gym membership card and my earphones (or my watch when i'm at the beach).
i love it and lug it around with me everywhere.
it see's my gym gear, work lunches, beach towel, water bottles, shopping, market groceries, paperwork – pretty much everything.
thanks again sisel.

how cute is my hoot!

they think i'm the creative one in our family!
look what mum designed and made and sent over to me.
it's a gorgeous little owl soft toy.
made from my old knitted scarf which was way too large and cumbersome to wear.
(i think she got four owls out of it. big scarf!)
he even has a little name tag 'hoot'.
i just love him.
