kitchen loves

i have been on a bit of a health kick the last few months.
so I have been spending a lot more time in the kitchen – which has to be the only downfall.
i am really not a lover of that room, but I'm trying.
it really has been paying off though – i feel so healthy, have less migraines and a lot more energy.
my go-to inspiration lately has been the adorable blog the first mess.
you HAVE to check it out.

plus some more random kitchen-y link love:

anatomy of a perfect lunch

one of the perks of working in northbridge is the great food choices at lunch.
i'm letting you in on a big secret here...
the best "sandwich" i've ever had is from the italian grocer the re store.
full of fresh goodness you choose yourself.
(they always freshly shave my prosciutto for me too!)
mouthwatering goodness for less than 10 bucks.
get there perth people!

what my instagram has been up to this past week

ugg boots on a cold(ish) friday night after a long week.
it's about the simple things sometimes.

my favourite little luxury with the bliss that is aesop resurrection aromatic handwash.
totally indulgent and one of my favourite aromas ever.

spending a wonderful public holiday with ben, katie and eamon visiting me.
my gorgeous brother bought us some delicious macarons from la galette.

splurging on new t2 teas.
lemongrass and ginger is a perfect light and refreshing drink and an old favourite.
new favourite with the nutty flavour of a slightly fermented oolong.
(resisted buying this gorgeous teapot)

and yesterday i had the most amazing breakfast with a bunch of girls at harvest.
soufflé cakes = AMAZING!
the pièce de résistance was the goats curd sorbet.
(i adore anything goats cheese flavoured)

breakfast food

new favourite: frozen banana + mixed berries + oats + oat milk + chia seeds + honey + frozen spinach.
yes, spinach!
can't even taste it and get some bonus greens in your morning.
another new discovery is oat milk.
it's creamy and kind of nutty.
i wouldn't go drinking it by itself, but it's perfect in this drink.
this little concoction of mine is so delicious + super healthy!

a little festivity with friends

last night i threw a dinner party for my musketeers (+ their boys).
we had an absolutely amazing night sitting out in the still summery night at des and sylvia’s.
hours of good food, great wine, fantastic conversation and so much laughter.
i am truly blessed to have such beautiful friends.

the simple things in life...

like starting the day with fresh soft boiled farm eggs, espresso and strawberries.
it sure did make my tummy very happy.
going with my own version of a detox... all natural foods, no sugar or preservatives, lots of water.
coffee still a must though.
it's just not an option to exclude my black gold.

mmm... hummus

my newest toy is a kitchen gadget!
a bday present from my musketeers.
i mentioned back in january how cute this little food processor was while on a shopping trip with m1 who in turn told m2.
they obviously picked up my current penchant for anything yellow.
note on life: if you drop a hint to a girl, they remember – in turn the opposite is true for the other sex.

anyway i 'cooked' last night and made a DELICIOUS homemade hummus.
adapted from this recipe.

homemade hummus

1 can chick peas
1/3 cup tahini
2 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for drizzling
3 cloves garlic, peeled
1/2 teaspoon salt
pinch of cayenne pepper

drain and rinse the chick peas.
place all ingredients, except the chick peas in a food processor (with blade).
process until the garlic is well chopped and blended.
add the chick peas and blend until smooth and at desired consistency.
add more salt and cayenne pepper to taste.
cover with plastic wrap and let stand for 30 minutes to allow the flavours to blend.
drizzle with olive oil and serve with pita bread or vegetables.
store in the refrigerate.

i added more tahini and a fair bit more cayenne pepper
(cause i like everything hot hot hot).
i'd ease up on the garlic next time though.
raw garlic is a bit overpowering.
yum at the time, but don't need to taste it 3 hours later.

anyone got any other great recipes to whizz up in my new little machine?

mmm... macaroons

so my macaroon craving did get the best of me.
justified to myself as a treat to share with both elise and sylv who i was saying goodbye to that night.
managed to stumble on the three best flavours ever.
strawberry and passionfruit, you're number one.
my mouth is watering just thinking about you.

holidays and food

well that is how i managed to sporadically document my week (and a bit) of holidays:
frozen yoghurt at red spoon in freo.
elise deciding what's for breakfast one hot morning at moore & moore.
a stop at the chocolate factory on a trip with bro and sis in the swan valley.
heidi savouring her short mac after an early morning swim and walk at cottesloe.
delicious little christmas cake from my darling mummy.

this week shall consist of less eating and more exercise.
that's the plan anyway.

oh, and happy new year!
